Educator tools & PD, K-12 coding and STEM

Assessment plays a pivotal role in computer science and coding education, providing educators with valuable insights into student progress and enabling personalized instruction. Especially as computing and robotics transitions from choice-based enrichment activities to core subjects where all students are expected to meet basic standards, assessment of learning has become crucial to successful implementation of a computer science curriculum.

The famous Elle Woods quote feels especially applicable, because assessing CS skills can be very challenging to navigate, especially for new to CS teachers, and yet we know teachers always find a way.

But our ultimate goal was to make it a whole lot easier. At CoderZ, we’re excited to announce we have updated the Assessment Centers for the courses CoderZ Adventure with LEGO® Education SPIKE™Prime and Cyber Robotics 101 to provide objective-based assessment tools, taking the guesswork out of assessing and providing a clear path for teachers to ensure skill mastery and comprehension.

We recorded a webinar discussing the significance of the updates, showcasing the changes, and demonstrating how to use the tools.

  1. Gauging Skill Acquisition: Assessments serve as a valuable tool to measure students’ understanding and mastery of coding concepts. They provide educators with insights into individual students’ progress and help identify areas where additional support may be required.
  1. Promoting Learning Outcomes: Assessments play a crucial role in setting learning objectives and defining expected outcomes. By clearly defining the skills and knowledge that students should acquire, educators can structure their lessons accordingly. This ensures that computer science and coding curricula align with educational standards and best practices, enabling students to achieve their full potential.
  1. Personalized Learning Pathways: Assessment data allows educators to personalize learning pathways for students. By understanding each student’s strengths and weaknesses, teachers can tailor instruction to meet individual needs. CoderZ’s Assessment Center updates provide enhanced data and reporting features, enabling educators to gain deeper insights into student performance and adapt instruction accordingly.

CoderZ’s updated Assessment Tools allows educators to:

  • Assess student progress based on what students are learning, not just doing
  • Make informed adjustments to teaching methods for targeted and personalized instruction
  • See student progress on the standards-aligned learning expectations articulated for the course
  • Quickly find and mark assessment items in each lesson, while viewing student work side-by-side with learning objectives
  • Strengthen the support system surrounding your students’ education by allowing for more comprehensive assessment

If you’re ready to learn more about the Assessment Center Updates, we highly recommend watching the recorded webinar above and visiting the CoderZ Knowledge Base – “How Can I Assess Student Learning?“.
