Computer Science Education Week (of CSEd Week if you’re cool) is an annual call to action to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field!

Here at CoderZ, we advocate and support all of those things. So when Dr. Sharon Jones of the Dottie Rose Foundation came knocking, we answered!

Together with school districts in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, we are supporting Dr. Jones in creating her amazing programming for Computer Science Education Week and we are bringing it to you! This marks the beginning of the Computer Science Education Week series with materials, ideas, and radical ways to bring computer science to all students.

The CSEdWeek theme this year highlights the impact that computer science is making everywhere & the relationship that computer science has to different subjects, industries, career paths, & our everyday lives.

To kick off the week, we will be sharing resources here for teachers to access and use in their classrooms. The best part? They don’t actually need computers to work!

All lessons have been created by the Dottie Rose Foundation and Dr. Sharon Jones! Enjoy and give her a shout-out on social media!

Let’s get Unplugged! This computer science activity is simple and fun! It helps introduce students to coding with simple tools- like a deck of cards, some tape, and some toys! Try it out! It’s a great way to start off CSEd Week!

Let’s be computers! This computer science activity is fun and helps students understand how computers perform multiple tasks at once.

Find the Errors! This computer science activity is fun, unplugged, creative, and something everyone can do. Your students will act as an error detector and corrector for computer programs.

Try these out this week and see what your students can accomplish with simple tools! Because Computer Science is for everyone and CSEd Week is for you!

CoderZ spent the whole week in Charlotte North Carolina and did incredible work with Dr. Jones of the Dottie Rose Foundation.

Not only did we present virtual events, but we also visited 70 classrooms and brought computer science and CoderZ to 1500 students across the entire state.

We were also able to visit a magnet school and saw two local robotics teams show off their skills.

We can’t thank Dr. Jones enough for bringing us to such an incredible state and for doing such great work for students who need it most. If you’re interested in work like this in your district, check us out and see how we can get your students excited for computer science and robotics.
